With the standard-fit dampers being of a much more sophisticated design than previous generation cars, we have found that fitting an upgraded ‘Sport Spring’ delivers a very worthwhile improvement to the standard Golf Mk6. Hence the different spring sets that we have developed for the Golf 6 (and most other cars using this platform) all match to the standard dampers, making this a very cost-effective modification to any of these cars.
Sport Springs are available for all Golf 6 models - unlike most 'lowering' springs on the market, each engine derivative, and the difference in manual and DSG gearbox weight is taken into account, so we offer 5 different Golf 6 springs to ensure that your car gets exactly the spring rate that its dampers are designed to match.
We have chosen to lower the car by around 20mm in order to preserve the wheel travel needed to keep usability of the standard car, with an increase in spring rate of around 10-15%. The end result is a more responsive feel to the handling and a lower centre of gravity. The VWR Sport Springs are 'progressively wound' (ie tighter coils at the ends, wider coils in the middle), which allows us to preserve the ride quality in normal use, but stiffen the spring rates at the ends of its travel.
